Rock Pegasus 710

Rock·s Pegasus P710-T7700 is the cheapest laptop we·ve seen with an HD DVD drive, at just under £1,200 including VAT.

We had no trouble playing HD DVD movies using the included PowerDVD software, although the grainy 17in widescreen display hampered our enjoyment. There·s an HDMI port, though, so you can connect the Pegasus to a high-definition TV instead.

The Pegasus·s battery lasted just 52 minutes while playing our HD DVD movie. Playback taxes the processor and graphics card heavily, in addition to running the optical drive constantly.

The Pegasus P710-T7700 fared better in our standard light-usage battery test, lasting two hours and 22 minutes.
You can easily store lots of photos, videos and music, thanks to the large 250GB hard disk.

Performance is very good too, with a quick Core 2 Duo T7700 and 2GB of RAM, which is more than enough for tough tasks.

Gamers will have to run games with reduced graphics settings and at lower resolutions, as the 256MB GeForce 8600M GS graphics chip managed only 14fps in our Call of Duty 2 test.

This is a powerful desktop replacement laptop and good value considering it has an HD DVD drive, but we·d expect a better display.
