If it’s gaming on the move that you’re after, look no further than the rock Xtreme

The rock Xtreme CTX Pro looked familiar, as it shares the same chasis as the AJP M575U. There’s nothing wrong with that at all: it’s got the practical front panel, has a good trackpad, an excellent keypad and looks great too. The system is arguably more stylish because it replaces the ribbed grey lid used by AJP with a classier all-silver model.

It also comes with the same SRS sound system, delivering a ‘virtual 8 channels’ of sound through its two speakers. We’re not sure about that, but they do sound better than most of the competition.

You also benefit from a huge range of ports, including FireWire, USB, memory card reader, DVI, and Gigabit LAN. This notebook is crammed with kit. This only makes it all the more remarkable that the system runs quite cool, at least in relation to the others here, making it more comfortable to use and prolonging component life.

Gamers Only
This notebook has many similarities with the AJP M575U then, but when you look closer you’ll also find many improvements. It uses the fastest CPU here, for instance, in the Core 2 Duo T7600. It’s 512MB RAM NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX graphics card delivered a desktop beating 8,084 in 3D Mark 05. When you’re not playing games, you’ll appreciate the easy-to-read 1680 x 1050 resolution on the bright, sharp, 17-inch screen.

The speedy hard-drive and high-performance memory made this system an effortless overall winner in the PCMark 05 benchmarks too. Mysteriously, it only made second place in MobileMark, but on average we think this will be the fastest system here.

The Xtreme CTX Pro won’t be for everyone, of course. At a bulky 3.8kg and with a battery life of only 113 minutes, this isn’t a system you’ll want to be carry and use everywhere. It’s a great desktop replacement though, and delivers astonishing gaminf performance that has to be seen to be believed.
