Reviews / Pegasus 665 - Windows XP: Made easy
» Windows XP says 7/10

-

A versatile laptop that doesn’t skimp on the graphics front

The Rock brand is noted for producing well-specified machines that give users top-end performance. The 665 springs from its more consumer-accessible Pegasus range. The unit boasts a functional rather than spectacular feel.
Opening the lid presents more of the same, but with a sense of space and a more uplifting feel to what lies ahead.

The 15.4 inch WXGA X-Glass TFT Screen boasts a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800. However, far a £50 upgrade, users will get a WUXGA+ screen with a 1680 x 1050 resolution. The screen is defiantly a plus point of the 665, with very little reflection and crisp, crystal clear graphics. The Workspace of the unit is spacious, with a full-size keyboard still leaving plenty of breathing space. The larger than average touchpad is accurate and responsive and is accompanied by two well-placed buttons. Hovering just above the touchpad is a small button that freezes the mouse cursor. This is ideal when watching DVD’s to ensure that the player is always full screen. The unit is powered by a Core 2 Duo T7200 running at 2.0GHz and 2GB of RAM, which is more than enough power for the included Windows Vista Home Premium OS. The standard T72 currently sits with 1GB of RAM, but for just £40, the upgrade to 2GB is well worth it.
On the audio front, the 665 incorporates the standard stereo speaker set up and like many mobiles, they’re only adequate for everyday use. The front of the machine is kept pretty clean, with only a wireless switch for company. However the right side boasts an Express card slot, USB, mini firewire, card reader, Ethernet port and DVI connection. The left incorporates a useful volume control, two USBs, DVD player, headphone and microphone slots.

VERDICT

The base model provides a great graphics engine which can be upgraded with the RAM for more power.

Overall: 7/10
