Intel has added six new mobile processors across a range of chips available for laptop users. For the power user, Intel now offer Mobile Pentium 4-m processor running at 2.4GHz. To enhance the performance of the processor, Intel has also introduced the new 852GM chipset that supports DDR memory and has a 400MHz front side bus. The new chipset includes six integrated USB 2.0 ports along with support for Intel’s enhanced SpeedStep technology.

Rockdirect is one of the first companies to make the processor available in its Xeno-m (£1725 inc VAT), which was previewed in last month’s issue. Alongside the 2.4GHz Mobile Pentium 4-m processor, the Xeno-m has 512MB of DDR RAM, a 40GB hard drive running 5400rpm, a 14.1inch TFT display, combination DVD/CD-RW drive and integrated Wireless LAN.

Of the other processors that have been made available, three are Mobile Celeron chips, running at 2GHz, 866MHz (LV) and 800MHz (LV) and the Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Mobile Pentium III-m 933MHz processors, which run at 1.1-volts and are designed for use in ultra-portable laptops.
